A Parish Family

by the Rev. Charlie Dupree

For those who were able to go to the parish retreat at Shrine Mont, we had a great time. And for those who couldn’t join, we missed you.

We spent a lot of time listening to our speaker talk about the spiritual value of flourishing. God wants everyone to flourish, she reminded us. We listened as she shared the importance of “retreating” . . . . time set apart.

But we did a lot more that brought us together as a parish family. We played games (Bingo!), ate great food (and snacks!), we danced (Chicken Dance!), sang, prayed together, and shared in Eucharist and Holy Baptism on Sunday. We could feel the ENTIRE St. Paul’s family come together as we baptized three young persons . . . “We receive you into the household of God,” we proclaimed under a blanket of trees. It was a beautiful experience.

Although we didn’t see much sunshine during the weekend, we were reminded of God’s presence through clouds, gentle rains, an ascent up and down mountains, children with crayons and markers, and getting to know each other in a different setting. It was a holy time.

I give thanks for all of those who helped organize the retreat, and for those who stayed to support worship at St. Paul’s.

If you were unable to join us at Shrine Mont this year, we hope you will next year!

For Knowledge of God’s Creation

Almighty and everlasting God, you made the universe with all its marvelous order, its atoms, worlds, and galaxies, and the infinite complexity of living creatures: Grant that, as we probe the mysteries of your creation, we may come to know you more truly, and more surely fulfill our role in your eternal purpose; in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

See you in church,
