Youth
Building upon the foundations laid in our Children’s Ministry programs, we offer the youth of our parish (6th-12th graders) an inclusive space where they can begin to explore and articulate their own faith journey as well as build Christian community with their peers. We gather on Sunday mornings and offer special youth-oriented activities throughout the year.

Youth Formation
Youth, grades 6th – 12th, are invited to attend Faith Formation at 11:30am in Room 111, 1st and 3rd Sundays. All are welcome, no matter where you are in your spiritual journey. Faith grows through education, fellowship, and service.
Youth Community Service
Throughout the year, youth at St. Paul’s have opportunities to work together and serve the parish and the wider community. They also participate in service projects at Bellemeade Park and help coordinate our Angel Tree, a Christmas community giving project. Youth are often found lending a hand to parish events and activities. Youth annually contribute to preparing the Youth Angel Tree, a Christmas community giving project. During the summer, they also assist the Emmaus Ministry, serving those in need in downtown Richmond through food, clothing, and social service donations.
Youth Confirmation
Confirmation serves as an official commitment to the Episcopal faith. With many youth having been baptized in childhood, Confirmation often becomes a rite of passage during teen years. Youth journey towards Confirmation through the congregation’s Exploring Episcopal Faith series. The program is an opportunity for youth to explore what it means to be Episcopalian while meeting clergy and other parishioners. Youth may also enter Exploring Episcopal Faith for inquiry purposes without the program necessarily ending in Confirmation.
Youth Serving in Worship
Youth are invited to participate in roles during worship in addition to singing in the choir. These include being an Acolyte or an Usher, serving with the Altar Guild, and serving as a Lay Reader.
Prayer Partners
This ministry matches a child or youth with a caring adult to build faithful mentoring relationships. Quarterly meet-ups are held after worship services throughout the year. Parents are included.
Our Commitment to Protect Your Child
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is committed to creating a safe environment that protects the well-being of all children and youth who participate in activities at our parish. We have designed and implemented policies to reflect that commitment.
Our staff and regular volunteers have all taken the Safeguarding God’s Children training, a sexual abuse awareness and prevention program mandated by the Episcopal Church.

Jabriel Hasan is an active lay leader in The Episcopal Church. As a community healer and advocate, his heart for service has extended to various pursuits. He is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer and a former Urban Service Corps resident of Richmond Hill. Jabriel also serves in leadership capacities as a Vestry member and a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia’s Truth and Reparations Task Force.
Jabriel Hasan
Coordinator of Youth Ministry
Jabriel recieved his M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary (’22), and recently completed further graduate study in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at William & Mary (M.Ed., ’24). In addition to being Coordinator of Youth Ministries at St. Paul’s, Jabriel also serves as a Resident in Counseling at Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care and Unique Holistic Care. Jabriel has been called to contribute spiritual grounding as a group facilitator with UNESCO and engages in interfaith ministry. In his spare time, Jabriel enjoys exercise, fellowship with loved ones, reading, and nature.
